GoToMyPC can provide access to Windows and macOS devices-and you can access those devices from Windows and macOS computers as well as any Android or iOS mobile device. Teamviewer also functions better than GoToMyPC. That's only slightly cheaper than GoToMyPC, but that lower price allows you to manage up to 200 computers, compared to just one for GoToMyPC. TeamViewer, another one of the pricier options, is free for home users and has paid plans starting at $418.80 per year. Both of those plans are a small fraction of what GoToMyPC charges, and in our tests RemotePC out-performed GoToMyPC. Remote PC costs $19.99 a year to control one computer or $79.50 a year to control up to 10 computers. This is quite expensive compared to the competition, particularly for personal use. The Pro version, which you need if you're going to access more than one of your own computers, starts at $792 per year for two computers and $396 per year per computer after that. The Personal plan starts at $420 per year and allows you to access a single computer. There is no free version of GoToMyPC, just a seven day trial. This is a legacy product that exists primarily to serve existing subscribers, and as such, we've lowered its score to reflect where it stands today compared with competing services. Every screenshot from our 2017 review of GoToMyPC is still accurate now, more than five years later, which speaks to the extent to which the app isn't getting updates. GoToMyPC still exists, but it's far from the most important player in the brand, which includes GoTo Meeting and other tools for business communication. The last time we reviewed GoToMyPC was in 2017, before rival company LogMeIn acquired it and added it to its GoTo-branded products. The problem is there are other applications that do the job better for less, while also making it easy to offer support for others. With that in mind, GoToMyPC is a straightforward tool if all you want to do is access your own computer, particularly the files on it. In other words, you install this software on your computer so that you can access it anywhere (go to your PC), but you cannot use it to access someone else's computer (go to their PC) unless they happen to be paying for the product. GoToMyPC, as the name implies, only works for the first use case. A Java-based client viewer is available for Linux, or for instances where the native client viewer can't be installed. There are two main uses for remote access software: accessing your own computer, so you can use the tools on it or grab files, or accessing other computers, typically so you can provide support. Three basic packages cover individual use, business and corporate with the latter two adding central management via the website for admins, usage reports for all users, limiting access to GoToMyPC features, multi-user access to a single host session, Wake-on-LAN support, and the setting and enforcement of security policies.Ĭurrently only Windows and MacOS X host and clients are available, along with iOS and Android support. GoToMyPC splits its configuration between account management on the website and the downloadable client options, which isn't as clean as having it all in one place, however one of the security options from account settings is two-factor authentication, providing for a one-time code sent to a user's phone to confirm authorisation.įurther to this, other welcome security features are included such as blanking the screen and locking the keyboard during session use, and locking the host on disconnect.Īs expected GoToMyPC sports many of the common features found among its peers - this includes shared clipboards, file transfer facilities, remote printing, and per-machine usage reports. The website for account management is secured with TLS while sessions are encrypted with 128-bit AES. An access code is still required for authentication, and this is stored with the host computer.Īs a result GoToMyPC both brokers handshake between machines and by default will attempt to setup a direct connection, falling back to a mediated connection if this isn't possible or if prevented by the client's security options. They can then start a session by downloading a separate viewer program and connecting. Instead, a user needs only login to the GoToMyPC website and they'll be presented with a list of machines where the host client is installed using their login. Continuing the trend GoToMyPC, developed by Citrix, also aims to make remote desktop a snap for users, and takes it a step further by not generating a unique ID that users need to connect to the host machine.
